Christmas Panto the Everyman

‘On Wednesday, December 7th, all first years attended ‘Cinderella’ at our oldest theatre in Cork ‘The Everyman Palace’. It was a most enjoyable experience for all. Students were engaged by the wit, atmosphere and memorable characters, (some of whom were past pupils of GCC) and returned to school full of festive cheer.’

Munster Schools

Congratulations to our U-15 soccer team on their brilliant 4-0 win against St Paul’s of Waterford in the Munster Schools. A hattrick from JJ Foley and a goal from Cian Daly (pictured below) sees us into the next round after the Christmas break.

Cork ETB Arts in Education Strategy launch

Michael O’ Callaghan (TY) & Jenny Lamb (3rd yr.) (pictured below) performed for Education Minister fNorma Foley in the Nano Nagle Centre, Cork last Friday 2 December. These two enormously talented singers performed at the launch of an arts initiative by the CETB.  Michael & Jenny wowed the audience & Norma, singing “The Impossible Dream”.  Well done to both students!

Christmas Carol Singing

On Wednesday 7 December , 21 TY students, accompanied by Ms. Gilbert and Ms. Mc Inerney travelled to Carrigtwohill Community Hall to sing carols for members of the Midleton Farm Family Group. It was really enjoyable because we got to sing and talk to members of the group. They were very welcoming, and we hope that we are as community minded as they are when we reach retirement age. Changes required to Schools’ Admissions policies

The Department of Education wishes to bring to the attention of school authorities changes that are required to the schools Admissions Statement following the commencement of the Education (Provision in Respect of Children with Special Educational Needs) Act 2022. All schools must include the below text in the schools admissions statement. The admissions statement is part of the school’s admissions policy.

Glanmire Community College will cooperate with the National Council for Special Education in the performance by the Council of its functions under the Education for Persons with Special Educational Needs Act 2004 relating to the provision of education to children with special educational needs, including in particular by the provision and operation of a special class or classes when requested to do so by the Council. Glanmire Community College will comply with any direction served on the patron or the board, as the case may be, under section 37A and any direction served on the board under section 67(4B) of the Education Act.”

The Department’s template schools admission policy has been updated to include this text. Section 62 (2) (b) of the Education (Admission to Schools) Act 2018 requires schools to consult with the patron, parents of students attending the school and staff of the school where amendments are made to the school’s admission policy. We have been asked to bring this legislative change outlined above to the attention of the above members of the school community for their information and comment. Please feedback via our policyreview@glanmirecollege.com email by next Friday 16 December 2022.
