Dear GCC Parents/Guardians & Students,
GCC Junior Certificate Results 2025
We would like to congratulate all our students on their excellent achievements in the 2025 Junior Certificate. These results represent a significant milestone in each student’s educational journey through GCC.
Our GCC students have once again demonstrated strong academic performance, achieving a 43% total increase in Distinctions and Higher Merits from last year. This is the second year in succession that GCC students have recorded higher numbers of top grades. Allowing for this year’s grade band adjustments, these results signify a notable and commendable rise in top-level achievements.
We commend our students for their hard work, dedication, and commitment throughout the three-year Junior Cycle programme. We also wish to acknowledge the invaluable contribution of our teachers, SNAs, and support staff, whose guidance, expertise, and encouragement have been instrumental to this success. In addition, we extend our sincere thanks to parents and guardians for their ongoing support and encouragement.
For those interested in appealing a subject descriptor from the Junior Certificate results, please see below the information from the SEC.
- Applications will only be accepted from the school to the SEC.
- Each subject review carries a fee of €32, payable to the school via Way2Pay
- To raise an appeal, the Principal must confirm that the result was significantly at variance with the expected outcome.
- Students must speak to their subject teacher prior to appealing a result.
All applications should reach the SEC no later than 5pm on Tuesday 14th October, 2025. The fee will be refunded if on review the candidate’s work is deemed to merit the award of a higher grade.

Please click on the link to view the WSE-MLL report following our inspection back in March. While much of the information in the report was shared during the feedback sessions with the lead inspectors in April, it is important to acknowledge the strong performance of the school across all areas of the inspection. GCC continues to perform at a consistently high level, driven by our exceptional staff, our wonderful students and the commitment of our parents to the school.

GCC Teaching and Learning Programme – Staff Workshop 4
Parents were informed in recent updates that as part of our Teaching and Learning Staff CPD programme in GCC this year, teachers are exploring concepts from D.T. Willingham’s book “Why don’t students like school?” This popular book delves into how the mind works and what it means for our teachers in the classroom. We advised that we will share periodically details of our staff Teaching & Learning workshops with parents and students through our weekly updates. This week we are sharing the details of Staff Workshop 4 which was entitled Factual Knowledge must precede Skill. Please click on the link below to view details of the staff presentation:

GCC October Assessment Feedback
Parents are asked to note that the closing date for teachers to enter results and comments for our October Assessments is Monday 20 October. Assessment results will be shared with parents and students via VSware before the mid-term break.
Parents may recall that our assessment feedback group has been working since last year on improving the consistency and quality of feedback to parents and students on VSWare. The group was tasked with collating a bank of effective comments across subject areas that teachers could use. Overall, the aim of the process was to promote meaningful comments for students and parents while ensuring that the entry process was efficient for teachers.
In response, a new assessment template is being trialled for our October Assessments. We would appreciate observations on this template after the assessments are completed. We would like to thank the members of our assessment review working group Maria Keane, Tom Pittam, Nicole Hyland, Clare Madden, William Horgan, Fiona O’Sullivan, Dean Grainger and Mary Clare Sweetnam for their work in developing the assessment templates which will help to provide high quality feedback to parents and students.

The email address is:
