Dear Parents,
Pre-Examinations 2023
Parents of 3rd Year students are asked to note that just under one third of the exam scripts sent out for correction from the Pre Exams have still to be returned. We are sorry that some students have had to wait for an extended period to receive their grades. We are in regular contact with the company providing this service and we will update you as required again next week.
Update on GCC Reading Intervention
Rang Aoife passed out Rang Fergal and won the class prize at the end of last week. One student in first year has nearly 600 pages read in the last two weeks and some classes are moving onto their third and fourth novel.
The TY/First-year paired reading intervention began on Tuesday 14 March. TY reading mentors have been trained to do paired reading with first year students who are struggling with reading. TY students will pick up their first-year student to
work with them in the resource room during the four assigned reading periods during their week.
GCC CanSAT Team “Candromeda”
On Saturday 11 March the GCC CanSAT team “Candromeda” took part in the Cork region CanSAT competition at MTU. The GCC can was measuring Carbon Monoxide levels in the air. Following this the team then had to analyze data and present their findings and answer questions in front of a panel of three judges.
Following a very successful day the GCC CanSAT team won the Regional Final which is a great achievement and will progress now to the national final in Portlaoise on the 4th and 5th of May where they will compete against other regional winners with the winner progressing to the European Final. The judges were particularly impressed with the GCC teams cansat, arduino knowledge, overall technical knowledge, teamwork skills and their outreach work in promoting CanSAT in the school. The team will now be working hard to improve their can for the National Final and will continue to gain invaluable STEM skills.
Congratulations to the CanSAT team of TY students, Alan Browne, Adam Hayes, Rian Leahy, Nathan Manley, Aisling O’Sullivan and Toby Tangney on their success so far.
