Meitheal is a leadership programme provided by Scala Youth Ministry, Blackrock. The Irish word Meitheal describes the old Irish tradition where people in rural communities gathered together on a neighbour’s farm to help save the harvest. People saw a need to help to reach out to others in practical way. They acted as a team, and pooled their skills to respond to the needs of their neighbours. The Meitheal served to strengthen local community bonds and friendships.
GCC are proud of to be part of the programme. Each year a team of 4th year students are trained and empowered to identify the needs of their school and to use their own initiative and talents to respond to the needs of the first years in a practical way. The aim is to encourage students to improve the quality of school life for their fellow students by taking one needs action per month.
Interviews for our 2019/2020 Meitheal team took place last Friday March 15th. Our thanks to Pa Cotter from Scala for facilitating these interviews. Congratulations to the following TY students who have been selected to be part of our Meitheal team next year.
