Instructional Leadership (IL) programme
In October 4 of our staff members Ms Hennessy Wall, Mr O Súilleabháin, Ms Cahill and Mr Dineen graduated in the Instructional Leadership (IL) programme run by the ETBI and facilitated by renowned Canadian academic, Professor Barrie Bennett.
Instructional leadership looks at the extent to which teachers can lead learning in the classroom and modify their instructional actions so as to maximise the impact on student learning. This involves the teacher using a range of skills, tactics and strategies that impact positively on student learning in the classroom. The interventions employed are based on extensive research into how students learn. In addition, IL fosters in teachers a greater awareness of how their actions can impact on critical factors that affect student learning, such as motivation, novelty, authenticity, safety and accountability. IL also explores concepts such as diverse learning styles, multiple intelligences, brain research and learning environment. GCC has been involved in IL since 2011.
Our thanks to Ms Hennessey-Wall, Mr O Súilleabháin, Mr Dineen and Ms Cahill who completed the programme over the last two years.
